You should be following your calendar and be on at least page 150 by Thursday. Two passages from "Stop and Notice" and three questions are due on Wednesday. Poetry 1. Free verse - doesn't follow the rules of rhythm, rhyme, or format prevalent during the Victorian period. Imagist poetry is written in free verse. Along with ignoring the traditional elements of rhythm and rhyme, it also focused on common, everyday subject matter instead of lofty, intangible subjects written previously. 2. E. E. Cummings (1894 - 1962) and William Carlos Williams (1883 - 1963) both ignored the basic rules of formatting and subject matter. E. E. Cummings wrote about everyday subjects like we say in his poems "in Just" which was about spring in the park and "The Sky Was" which was about the steam coming out of a locomotive against a sunset. William Carlos Williams (1883 - 1963) was another poet who wrote during this same time. You may know his poem "The Red Wheelbarrow." That is the subject of the poem. He also wrote the poem, "This is Just to Say." It is a false apology poem. 3. Read A River of Words by Jen Bryant about William Carlos Williams. 4. Read excerpts from Forgive Me, I Meant to Do It by Gail Carson to get ideas for false apology poems
